Can-Am

The mighty machines of the Can-Am Championship must surely be leading candidates for the title of 'most awesome racing cars ever built'... Some forty years ago they put out over 1000 horsepower in their most-developed form and hit speeds of up to 220mph despite aerodynamics that were experimental at best and highly dangerous at worst! They made the Grand Prix F1 cars of the day look tame by comparison. And even today, the 'Can-Am thunder' still rumbles as huge crowds flock to historic race meetings wherever these incredible cars appear. Porsche, McLaren, Lola and Shadow were the Championship-winning cars, with Chaparral, Bryant Ti22, March, BRM and Ferrari as the challengers. We focus in depth upon all of these as they rumble and roar around tracks like Laguna Seca with its legendary downhill 'corkscrew' turn. We even recall the days of the 'Interserie' - Europe's Can-Am equivalent - by filming at the Nurburgring round of the current Orwell Supersports Cup series for historic Can-Am

Bombardier Can Am Outlander ATV

Article by allterrain9

Bomardier Recreational Products (BRP) is a Canadian company with a history dating back to 1942. BRP has manufacturing facilities in six countries and its products are sold in 80 countries. If you have never heard of BRP you probably have heard of their products; SeaDoo, SkiDoo, Evinrude-Johnson, Rotax engines, Can-Am all terrian vehicles (ATVs), and the innovative Can-Am Spyder Roadster.Can-Am has stiff competition in the ATV market from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Polaris and even farm equipment giant John Deer has a line of ATVs. Up to date and reliable market share information is not available but in 2005 Honda was number 1 with 29% while Can-Am was shown with a 5% share.Can-Am may well have gained significant market share, as it seems to be leading all other manufacturers with new or improved technology available as options on their high-end models.Air controlled suspension (ACS) allows Can-Am Outlander riders to adjust the rear suspension to 6 different settings in response to changing trail conditions and/or load such as a passenger. This option adjusts handling characteristics through Fox Racing Shox-bilt high-pressure gas shocks.Can-Am trailed behind Yamaha, Honda, Polaris and Suzuki with a power steering option but now offers Dynamic Power Steering (DPS). DPS has two rider-selectable positions allowing more or less power assistance to steering based on trail conditions. This system allows a quicker torque response and reduces steering kickback resulting in more driver control in rough conditions. The system is powered by a 50-amp motor, which reduces fade in heavy use that is common in some systems.Visco-Lox is a progressive locking front differential available on models with DPS. This system detects and adjusts to variations in speed of the two front wheels. It is the only fully locking differential that has no vehicle speed restrictions on when it may be engaged.Can-Am has three models of ATVs. The Outlander can be purchased in 10 variations and tops out with the Can Am Outlander Max 800R EFI LTD priced at around ,500 US, the most expensive Can-Am ATV. The Renegade, which is a favorite of trail and motocross racers, has two model options. The DS series has four models including the DS90 which has a Y-10 rating for children 10 or older and a maximum speed of 30 mph and, the DS70 with a Y-6 rating for children 6 and over with a maximum speed of 15 mph.
