Most important stopping tip. Look where you are putting your foot before you put it on the ground. Especially at stops lights. If a car before you leaked anything on the ground and you put your foot in it, it's like stepping on ice and you will fall down...Lean with him, not against him. If you have to close your eyes... push your chest into his back and become one with him. Brace yourself over rail road tracks. Be prepared to bail.... Left arm straight out is left turn -left arm bent is right..( you'll probably have signals) but above all STAY SOBER AND PAY ATTENTION cause a*&holes with cell phones arn't watchin out for you. Good ridin' to ya. OH --squeeze w/ da knees.Here's my suggestion, being that I have ridden for 30 years. I say either ask him to take a motor cycle safety course, it's good refresher or let him ride by himself for the first two weeks to get use to the brakes and handeling of the bike. He would be more confident in two weeks, also it's easier to recover when it's only one person on the bike.

Tell him to read the owners manual cover to cover first, many good tips. I read mine even though I have been riding for a long time.

He needs to now these tips:
1.Brake with both brakes at the same time.
2.Never stop on any painted surface, they are slick as glass.
3.Ride left of center, so the car ahead see's your headlight in their mirror.
4.Follow with a 4 second lead, car space, at any speed, under 70MPH.
5.Harley says not to ride at the same speed all the time, during the first 500 mile break in period.
6.The new bikes need to warm up a minimum of 4 minutes before driving, they then to stall or miss a cycle, very dangerous when first turning and not warmed up. The engine tends to cut off.
7 All the new Harleys are running lean, it is recommended putting a power commander on the injected models or rejetting the carb on the other models.
8.In the rain or wet road cond. do not down shift, causes the back end to slip.
9.In the rain, apply more rear brake than on dry roadway.
10.Wear a helmet a full face is recommended, it saved my friends jaw from comming off in a wreck.
11. Wear leather perforated (Vanson) Jacket, all the time.

Remember this, if you ride long enough, you will slip and fall.
If the bike ever falls over or he drops the bike and easy way to pick up the bike anyone can do, even little ole' you.

Just tell him, like being in a Gym, doing the squat machine, turn around and put his butt on the seat, put the kick stand up first, then squat down grab the bike and push up only with the legs.
Very easy way to pick it up and save your backs.
