How many inches of cocoon insulation do I need for my attic?
Best answer:
Not exactly sure what cacoon insulation is, but you should be more than covered if you go with R-42. When ever you get to the R values that are more than 38, the return diminishes down to almost nothing. This means that R-40 is virtually the same as R-100. I'm a new homebuilder in Minnesota and I put in 24" of blown in insulation. I get around R-38 to 40. The money saved there can go to more important energy savings like windows and sealants. It is critical to get every opening from the ceiling to the attic space sealed up. That's where the heat is lost, small penetrations in the "lid".
Check the packaging for how many bags you need, they'll have a table for you to follow.
