What do you know about the Kiva charity?
Best answer:
I am a regular donor to Kiva (over 70 loans of varying sizes). Everything that I've read about them seems to indicate that they do their homework to make sure all of the microfinance organizations that they do business with are on the up and up. Of all of the loans I've made, I've had one loan default and I only got back $ 15 of the $ 25 I loaned to that particular individual. The area of the world that the person who defaulted lives in, is particularly troubled and I made the loan knowing that there was a risk of default was higher than normal. On the other hand, I've been able to re-loan a substantial amount of money because so many of the loans have been paid back on time.
All in all, I've been very pleased with my relationship with Kiva.
